A fixture on the Old Montreal wine and dining scene since 1997, Modavie gets 'jazzed up' thanks to major renovations and a new association with Université de Montréal.

In what is sure to strike some exciting new chords with local diners, tourists, and jazz fans alike, the laid-back bistro and wine bar recently celebrated the addition of 2,300 square feet of floor space, doubling its number of tables, as well as a partnership with UdeM's Jazz Program to showcase and support the city's up and coming jazz talent.

Twice a month, professors will select standout students to perform as part of the restaurant's lineup, effectively 'combining our fresh face with fresh talent', says Maria Antonopoulos, Marketing Communications Manager at Experience Old Montreal, the umbrella company behind many of the historic neighbourhood's restaurants and hotels. She adds: 'Our goal is to lay the foundation for a smart, new environment that will be embraced by emerging musicians and local bon vivants.' Well, if the expression 'build it and they will come' holds any truth, then the Group is certainly on the right track.

The space itself expertly blends old with new, and creates a seamless continuation with the original restaurant, and revamped Old MTL vibe.  Accented by stone walls and clean, befitting woodwork, the new interior serves as a go-to post-work hang, while a VIP section with a skylight and coffee bar, and a fully private second floor are tailor-made for group reservations seeking the kitchen's varied menu of home-style dishes - think lamb, beef, fish, pasta, and of course...all that jazz!

Final note: fear not if you happen to like a certain kind of musical entertainment with dinner - we're told to expect a wide range of styles and eras. From classic 40s- 70s, to blues, R&B, and an eclectic mix of 70s-to-now fusion and contemporary, much like the new Modavie, it's all about the harmony.

Joie de vivre anyone?
