For anyone with a liking for top-level creative contemporary dance, this evening promises to fly   'above and beyond' as the Young Leaders of Les Ballets Jazz de Montréal (BJM) have made the     call to the city’s distinguished young leaders for the group’s third Contact event, set to take the stage Friday evening at the Usine C theatre, under the artistic direction of Akufen creative studio.

For those in the know, the BJM never ceases to amaze and enthral with its physical, mood-capturing, and expertly choreographed performances, hallmarks of both its annual gala fundraiser in the spring, and autumn's young-professional Contact soirée. But in case you’re wondering why you may have never heard of them, it’s because most of their work is performed abroad. Founded in 1972, the internationally lauded repertory company has grown to where, under the direction of Louis Robitaille since 1998, it has presented more than 2000 performances in 66 countries to over 2 million spectators.

Because local performances by the troupe are ever so rare, it makes attending the gala that much more special, even more so thanks to a program which includes the exclusive Canadian premieres of the company’s new creations, Kosmos by Andonis Foniadakis and Rouge by Rodriguo Pederneiras. Rounding out the entertainment highlights are artist Sanaz Sotudeh playing a piano sponsored by Nantel Musiquea surprise performance by those uber-talented BJM dancers, and DJ SPecialK delivering smooth, soulful beats to fuel the dance floor all night long.

Of course, what would a high profile event be without the ancillary VIP touches? This year they're offered up in spades with oysters courtesy of Bar Mme Lee, foie gras and tartars sponsored by Eat me, I’m fat, an open bar sponsored by BacardiBowmoreAuchentoshanBar à Jus, and Unique Foods Canada and featuring signature cocktails by l’Assommoir.

The ubiquitous silent auction will contain items that read like a wish list anyone would be pleased to wake up to on Christmas morning, with partners Lasik MD, BCBG, Lolë, Misencil, Marie Saint Pierre, Harricana, Fou d'ici, and George Laoun providing the most covetable lots, and with all proceeds returning right back to the group’s DNA to support the Eva von Genscy fund for the training of emerging Quebec dancers.
