Covering the event beat as much as we do, particularly cause-driven fundraisers, we can point to certain key elements that are essential to get right in order to guarantee a memorable takeaway for guests, and of course increase the likelihood of support year after year.

Well this spring we were fortunate enough (through loads of stamina!) to attend a bevy of charitable social happenings, and witness firsthand the best of the city’s dynamic philanthropic set as they made all the right moves with their venue selection, food, bar, entertainment, and parting swag, to make us ‘save the date’ for next year. The following couple had us take special note.

Lungevity – April 3rd @Wave Complex Dompark

In only it’s second year, this spirited soirée has already garnered much attention and support for the Lung Cancer Program of the Jewish General Hospital’s Segal Cancer Center. Having lost her own mother to the terrible disease, event founder (and true dynamo!) Fraida Saxe continues to fulfill her mother’s wish that a cure be found.

This year’s edition had us all converge at the Wave event space in Point St.Charles for a masked do in a carnival-like atmosphere complete with captivating acrobatic performances, sexy slinky burlesque numbers, an impromptu limbo contest (sadly yours truly didn’t compete), live DJ, varied food stations, open bar, and a great time had by all. Expect this fundraiser to soon reach the status of social calendar mainstay!

Dolce Vita –May 4th @Luciani Infiniti

Organized by the combined forces of the Miriam Foundation and Unicorn Children’s Foundation, the Sunday late afternoon affair drew a sizable crowd to the well-appointed Infiniti dealership on Jean-Talon for an extensive and all-around delicious Italian-themed cocktail dînatoire catered by Beatrice, wine bar, and generous silent auction items up for bidding thanks to a number of high profile partners.

MC Frank Cavallaro both informed and moved us as we learned more about the goal of raising funds for autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and developmental disabilities, while helping afflicted individuals lead fulfilling lives. Words were then transformed into action as we took in a performance from the Glee Club, a Gold Center leisure club for adults with ASD.  Multo fantastico!
